Geek. Poser. Jock. Beauty Queen. Wannabe. These are the labels that can last a lifetime. With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County) 13 is a musical about fitting in - and standing out!
Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents divorce. Surrounded by an array of simpleminded middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain. or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!?
When CB's dog dies from rabies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group's bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion and sexual identity collide and careen toward an ending that's both haunting and hopeful.

Every child deserves a happy place! A place where they can learn to express themselves, develop self-confidence and create lasting friendships in an environment that is nurturing, challenging and safe.
Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre has been this place for thousands of children over the last 28 years. We strive to produce quality theatrical programs while we introduce aspiring, young actors to all aspects of musical theatre productions. This exceptional programing requires funding, and the fact is, some of our youth families are not able to afford the fees required to participate. We never want the inability to pay these fees to stop anyone from participating in our programing, so we created the Gerry Cullity Legacy Educational Fund.
In order to continue to provide scholarships to our programs, we ask that you review the levels of support listed below and consider making a donation. Donations to the Gerry Cullity Legacy Educational Fund will help us make theatre an opportunity for all youth who come through our doors!

The setting is a simple wood-frame house in the American Southwest. Hector, a young campesino, is apprehensively awaiting the return of his father, Gallo, who has been serving a jail term for manslaughter. Gallo, who is obsessed with cock fighting, is a philandering, high-living macho type, who finds it difficult to communicate with, much less understand, his contemplative, questioning son. The crux of the play is the battle for supremacy between the father, who wants to exploit the fighting cock which his son has been looking after for him, and Hector, who argues that they should sell the animal and use the proceeds for family needs. Drawn into the dispute are Hector's sister, Angela, an otherworldly creature who wears angel wings and blots out unpleasant reality by hiding under the front porch; his lusty, profane aunt, Chata, whose overt sexuality is both fascinating and disturbing to her impressionable nephew; and his long-suffering mother, Juana, who wishes that her family would stop bickering and live in peace. Mingling scenes of explosive drama with moments of fanciful imagery, the play deftly blends its two natures as it moves to its conclusion when, in a theatrically magical moment, illusion and reality achieve a remarkable synthesis.

Your career as a writer is blossoming, your beautiful, young fiancee is waiting to get married and rush off to Cancún by your side — so what is your natural reaction? Well, if you're a man, it's probably to get nervous and start calling up old girlfriends. And so begins a single man's odyssey through four hotel rooms, as he flies across the country in search of the perfect woman (whom he's already broken up with). In grand LaBute fashion, this by turns outrageously funny and deadly serious portrait of the artist as a young seducer casts a truthful, hilarious light on a typical young American male as he wanders through the heart of darkness that is himself.
